Wealth of STEM Knowledge

While the most important goal of introducing a child to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is the joy of learning something new and fantastic, it also is important to note the benefits STEM provides for our children’s future. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 75% of the top 20 highest-paying careers rely on firm STEM education.

At its core, STEM education looks to refine a child’s understanding of both scientific and technical realms. In these arenas, children could grow up to code the next artificial intelligence, save lives as doctors, advance space travel, or innovate to create clean energy alternatives. Even if the child decides that college isn’t for them, there are many jobs and careers with high starting-salaries from technical schools that benefit from a firm foundation in STEM.

When a child acquires a taste for STEM subjects, they foster creativity in ways they may never have dreamed before. It’s been proven that people who are successful as inventors have a secure future and drive industries [1]. After all, most inventions we see today derive from technological advances connected to STEM.

Around half of all the jobs in the U.S. have at least a partial reliance on STEM knowledge and around 20% a strong STEM foundation [2]. When a child is introduced to STEM subjects early on, they will be better prepared to pursue whatever career path they might desire.

Not every person will opt for a career related to STEM, but those with an established background in STEM will certainly have an advantage. By understanding STEM, children will gain confidence that they can learn whatever they are passionate about. They will demonstrate perseverance while pursuing their careers even when faced with failures along the way. STEM teaches children that nothing is impossible and helps them determine their future.

As parents, we want to provide the best opportunities for our children to help them succeed in life. STEM education will enable them to see the future full of potential and opportunities for a fulfilling life.
